Our NTI group took an interesting trip around Huntington on March 31, 2010. Armed with pen and paper, we boarded the TTA for a short trip around town. The idea was to ride and write about whatever or whomever we encountered on our trip. Some of us had never ridden the bus before, and were a little apprehensive about the whole thing. Others embraced the idea enthusiastically and were ready to ride. After a little seat shifting, and after several stops under our belts, many of us were able to relax and write. Although I personally have some difficulty with nausea while riding and writing, I did manage to record some thoughts about Dave, our bus driver…
The long rectangular TTA bus hissed and squealed as it lurched forward to a stop in front of me. The door folded open as I climbed onto the platform step. I looked up to find a friendly looking bus driver in a starched pale blue uniform. His thick, wavy, white hair and silver rimmed glasses immediately put me at ease. I plunged my hand deep into my pocket to retrieve the crinkled dollar bill I had hidden away for my fare. ” I’m not sure the machine will take this wrinkled bill,” I said cautiously. The driver nodded and accepted my dollar without comment. I made my way to the back of the bus and quickly surveyed the passengers as I took my seat.
Next time you travel, try a little writing along the way…you never know what you’ll get to write about!
